Should I choose the Free or Pro version of PSM Multi Currency?
Choose Free if you have a few currencies and are happy to refresh exchange rates yourself. Choose Pro if you want the right currency to show automatically for each visitor, rates that update on a schedule, more exchange rate services, or a checkout currency based on the customer’s country.
See the full list in Free vs Pro.
Do I need to enter a price for each currency?
No. You enter one price in your store currency, as you always do in WooCommerce. The plugin converts it with the rate, fee and rounding you set for each currency. Your saved product prices never change. See How prices are converted.
How do I add a new currency?
- Go to PSM Plugins → Multi Currency → Currencies.
- Click Add new currency.
- Choose the currency in the pop-up and click Submit.
- Check the rate in the Rate column. To change the rate, fee, rounding or format, click the edit button of the currency.
More details: Manage Currencies.
Is there a limit to how many currencies I can add?
No. You can add as many currencies as WooCommerce supports. For your customers, a short list is easier to use, so add only the currencies you really sell in. You can also turn a currency off without deleting it.
Why can’t I delete or edit my store currency?
Your store currency is the base of all other currencies. Its rate is always 1, so it cannot be edited or deleted in the plugin. To change it, go to WooCommerce → Settings → General → Currency. The plugin then adds the new currency and updates the rates of currencies in Auto mode. Check your Manual rates yourself.
Can I disable a currency without deleting it?
Yes. Use the on/off switch at the start of the currency row on the Currencies tab. A disabled currency is hidden from the currency switcher and from the Checkout tab, and its settings are kept, so you can turn it on again at any time.
What does the “Preview” column show?
It shows a sample price (1,234.56) in the format of that currency: symbol position, thousand separator, decimal separator and number of decimals. Use it to check that the format looks right.
How is the exchange rate set?
Each currency has a Rate Mode:
- Auto: the plugin gets the rate from an exchange rate service. Click Refresh exchange rates to update all Auto currencies.
- Manual: you type your own rate when you edit the currency. The plugin never changes it.
See Exchange rates.
Will currency rates update automatically?
In the free plugin, rates update when you click Refresh exchange rates (and when you add or save a currency in Auto mode). In Pro, you can turn on automatic updates and choose how often, from every few minutes to every few days. See Auto-update exchange rates.
Which exchange rate services can I use?
The free plugin uses Yahoo Finance. Pro also supports CryptoCompare, Currencyapi, Open Exchange Rates, Currencylayer, Fixer and The Free Currency Converter by European Central Bank. Some of them need an API key and have limits on free plans. See Exchange rates.
Why is the rate of my new currency 1?
The plugin could not get the rate from the exchange rate service, for example because the service was busy or your server could not connect. Click Refresh exchange rates after a few minutes. If it still shows 1, edit the currency, set Rate Mode to Manual and type the rate yourself.
Can I add a fee or round the converted prices?
Yes. For each currency you can add a fixed or a percentage fee, and round prices up, down or to the nearest step. With Rounding Minus you can make prices end in .99, for example. See Manage Currencies.
How can customers switch between currencies?
With the currency switcher. It shows on the single product page by default. You can also place it anywhere with the PSM Multi Currency Switcher block, the Elementor widget, or the shortcode
[psm-multi-currency-switcher]. See Display Settings and Currency switcher shortcode. The switcher does not show on my shop page. What should I do?
The Display tab only controls the single product page. To show the switcher on other pages, for example in your header or on the shop page, add the block, the Elementor widget or the shortcode. Also make sure you added at least two currencies and that they are turned on. See Block and Elementor widget.
Can customers pay in the currency they selected?
Yes. The cart and checkout use the selected currency, as long as the currency is allowed on the Checkout tab and your payment gateway supports it. You can also choose which payment methods are shown for each currency. See Checkout Settings.
Why does the checkout show a different currency from the one I selected?
The currency was turned off on the Checkout tab, or (Pro) a rule forces the currency by the customer’s country. In that case the customer pays in your store currency or the forced currency, and a notice can explain it. See Checkout Settings and Force checkout currency by country.
Are shipping costs, free shipping limits and coupons converted?
Yes. Shipping rates, the minimum amount for free shipping, and fixed coupon amounts are converted with the same rate, fee and rounding. Percentage coupons are applied to the converted subtotal.
Does the plugin show the currency of a visitor automatically?
Yes, in Pro. The plugin finds the visitor’s country from the IP address and shows the matching currency to new visitors. A visitor who chooses a currency with the switcher keeps their choice. See Auto-detect currency by country.
The currency does not stay after I switch it. What should I do?
This usually happens with a caching plugin. Go to Multi Currency → Advanced, turn on Use cache plugin, save, and clear your cache. See Cache plugin mode.
Can I see my sales for each currency?
Yes. In WooCommerce → Analytics, use the Currency filter to see one currency, or All currencies for a combined total in your store currency. Each order keeps the exchange rate used when it was placed. See Sales reports by currency.
Does it work with WooCommerce Subscriptions and other extensions?
Yes. The plugin works with WooCommerce Subscriptions, Product Bundles, Product Add-ons, Name Your Price, Role Based Pricing and several shipping plugins. See the full list in Compatibility.
Is PSM Multi Currency compatible with WPML and Polylang?
Yes. The plugin works with WPML and Polylang, so you can build a store with many languages and many currencies. You can also translate the checkout notice with the string translation tool of your translation plugin. See Compatibility.
Does PSM Multi Currency collect personal data? Is it GDPR friendly?
The plugin does not collect names, emails or other personal details. It saves the customer’s chosen currency in a browser cookie. To get rates, it sends only currency codes (for example USD and EUR) to the exchange rate service.
If you use Pro auto-detect currency by country, the visitor’s IP address is sent to the geolocation service you choose, and the detected country is kept for one day. Please mention this in your privacy policy. We cannot give legal advice, so check the rules that apply to your business.
Will the plugin slow down my site?
No. The plugin is light, and it works with popular caching plugins. If you use caching, turn on cache plugin mode. See Cache plugin mode.
How do I move from Free to Pro?
Install and activate the Pro plugin, then activate your license key. Pro uses the same settings, so your currencies are kept. When Pro is active, the free plugin does not load, so you can deactivate and delete it. See Install and activate.
I don’t have a PayPal account. Can I still buy the Pro plugin?
Yes. You do not need a PayPal account. On the PayPal payment page, you can pay securely with a debit or credit card.
How can I get support?
Please contact our support team. We are happy to help with questions, problems and feedback. Pro users can also use the Support button at the top of the plugin settings page. Before you write, you may find your answer in FAQ and troubleshooting.
